Father Sebastian Kneipp, a Bavarian priest, popularized "water cure" — cold and warm water applications, walking barefoot on dewy grass, herbs and simple living. His student Benedict Lust (1872–1945) brought these ideas to America and founded the American School of Naturopathy in 1901 — the root of today's naturopathic medicine.

Try a modern Kneipp practice: end your shower with 30 seconds of cool water, or walk barefoot on grass in the morning. Go gently if you have heart or circulation problems.
